Medical supplies in hospitals include low-cost items with a high frequency of consumption as well as expensive implants and surgical kits. These consumables constitute an important part of the hospital budget, so the correct monitoring and management of this medical inventory is fundamental to a sound financial management. It quickly takes employees several hours per week to check stocks. In addition, manual registration and processing of data is prone to errors.
Stock shortages in a hospital can have serious consequences. Medicines or medical products needed to treat patients may not be provided on time or in the right quantity. This can lead to patients having to stay in the hospital longer than necessary, or even being transferred to another hospital. Overstocks, in their turn, require additional storage space to be provided and may result in expired products.
Accurate and real-time stock management via RFID Stock Management
An RFID-controlled stock management enables to automatically register all incoming and outgoing articles of a warehouse or storage room, which gives you an accurate overview of your stocks. Identified stock changes can also be automatically processed as an order or transferred to the WMS, in order to avoid stock shortages. Manual counting is no longer necessary.
RFID stock management can be realised based on RFID labels which are scanned or based on RFID ticket holders in an RFID Kanban system (empty/full concept)
Aucxis developed the POLARIS Asset Management Software which provides a comprehensive set of standard modules among which picking, replenishment and order processing. The necessary lists and filter modules allow to quickly and intelligently view data and monitor the stock. With the POLARIS app or web portal, you can check the status and functioning of your inventory in real time per box, as well as verify the entire order inventory.
Every item is equipped with an RFID tag or an RFID label which contains the unique information of the asset.
The items can be scanned quickly by means of a handheld or fixed RFID scanners.
The Aucxis HERTZ Middleware ensures the captured data to be made available to your own software packages or to the Aucxis POLARIS Asset Management Software.
RFID Kanban Stock Management
The Kanban stock management is based on the “pull-based planning and control” principle. The system uses a visual map (Kanban) displaying the stock status (empty/full), which determines when materials must be ordered to replenish your stock. A properly set Kanban system provides a flow where the stock is replenished just-in-time.
Aucxis combined the Kanban concept with RFID technology, bringing empty/full stock management to a whole new level. The RFID Kanban solution detects in real time all incoming and outgoing items via RFID ticket holders and RFID readers provided in the storage room.
For maintenance and backup functioning, the user can – by means of a handheld scanner – check the status and functioning per box in real time or verify the entire order inventory of the warehouse.
All empty/full locations in the storage room are equipped with a ticket holder with integrated RFID chip. The ticket holders remain present on the ISO modules or warehouse racks.
When replenishing or taking away a product, it is possible to turn the cover, allowing the centrally based RFID antennas to identify the stock status in real time.
