Asset Tracking
RFID Asset Tracking enables you to know at any time the exact location of your assets.
- Efficient asset management
- Follow-up and quality control of medicines
- Your medical assets always available for use
- Data analysis for operational optimisations
Asset management: quite a challenge
Hospitals, often large buildings with various floors, have thousands of assets located throughout the entire site. The manual management of all these assets is complex and far from error-free, sometimes requiring staff to travel long distances and spend a lot of time tracking them. Searching for resources needed to perform medical examinations and procedures costs a lot of money and may result in a loss of time at crucial moments. Moreover, valuable assets are sometimes lost or under-used.
Efficiency and quality control
Also in the pharmaceutical sector, RFID Asset Tracking is a great way to automatically monitor product locations, destinations, serial numbers and other important data throughout the supply chain. This information can be used to efficiently improve the quality control of medicines and to guarantee that all safety standards are met.
Your medical assets always available for use
When assets are equipped with an RFID tag or RFID label, they can be identified, tracked and localised at all times. The Aucxis HERTZ Middleware ensures the captured data to be made available to your own software packages or to the Aucxis POLARIS Asset Management Software, where the unique data, locations and movements of the assets are visualised and managed. RFID enables you to make a quick and accurate inventory, giving you an up-to-date overview of your assets.
Data analysis for operational optimisations
The captured data on your medical assets can also be used for analysis purposes, for example to understand the logistics flow of your assets and their use, allowing you to improve operational performance.
Applications in a hospital environment
RFID Asset Management enables you to optimise the management of:
- medical equipment
- reusable medical devices: wheelchairs, stretchers, crutches,…
- furniture: hospital beds, cabinets, chairs,…
- reusable medical instruments (loan sets)
- …
Applications in the pharmaceutical industry
- Asset management
- Tracking of RTIs and receivers such as drums, pallets, boxes
- Tracking of RTIs with temperature registration during internal movements within certain zones and during external transports
- …
Every item is equipped with an RFID tag or an RFID label which contains the unique information of the asset.
The tagged items can be scanned quickly by means of a handheld, fixed or mobile RFID scanners.
The Aucxis HERTZ Middleware ensures the captured data to be made available to your own software packages (for example, Ultimo) or to the Aucxis POLARIS Asset Management Software.
Stock Management
Efficient management of medical supplies: critical to patient care, fundamental to sound financial management.

Condition Monitoring
By using RFID, it is possible to monitor the environmental conditions of perishable goods during their storage and transport. This provides essential information for quality monitoring and allows alarms to be generated when threshold values are exceeded.
Condition monitoring involves the use of RFID loggers: compact devices that store temperature and/or humidity data at configured times or intervals. They include an RFID antenna that enables the wireless configuration of the device, as well as the transfer of the stored data to various types of data readers.
Combined RFID/NFC technology can be used as well, allowing the data to be read via a smartphone.
In the medical world, RFID loggers are used in the preservation and transport of vaccines, medicines and clinical trial products that are kept within a prescribed temperature range to maintain their efficacy.
The products can be monitored, tracked and traced in a cost-effective way.
The products or their outer boxes are equipped with an RFID logger registering the environmental conditions.
The data can be scanned quickly via RFID scanners or via a smartphone.
The Aucxis HERTZ Middleware ensures the captured data to be made available to your own software packages or to the Aucxis POLARIS Asset Management Software.
Product Verification
Automatic control of medical kits and loan sets: RFID allows to verify whether a finished product or a product set is composed of the correct components.
In the medical sector, this could be an implant set, for example. Each component of the set is equipped with an RFID tag or an RFID label. The components are added to a set list, and after composing a set, it is scanned by an RFID reader for completeness and for the presence of the correct components. In a similar way, the consumed components from a set can be detected as well. Aucxis offers RFID solutions for this which ensure an error-free and high-performing detection of implants.
Components are equipped with an RFID tag or an RFID label which contains the unique information of each component (name, serial number, expiry date,…).
A list of the necessary components for a set is composed. After composing the set, the box is checked for completeness and for the presence of the correct components. This can be done by means of an RFID handheld, gate, desktop scanner, scanning box, scanning tunnel …
Upon return of a set, the consumed components are detected.
The Aucxis HERTZ Middleware ensures the captured data to be made available to your own software packages or to the Aucxis POLARIS Asset Management Software.
Access Control
RFID makes access control 100% secure.
In a cleanroom environment, doors can be opened without contact and access to the rooms and occupancy are closely monitored.
The cleanroom environment
A cleanroom is a very clean working environment designed to reduce or, if possible, eliminate contamination to the manufacturing process or to the research taking place in that environment. In order to avoid contamination in a cleanroom department, several techniques and procedures are applied. One of them is access control to prevent unauthorised persons from entering the cleanrooms. Furthermore, special clothing prevents the people present in the cleanrooms from contamination with hair, skin scales and dust particles from underclothes.
RFID makes access control 100% secure
Access control in the cleanroom department needs to meet some practical and legal guidelines, which include, among other things, that it should be possible to open the doors without contact and that the number of people allowed in a cleanroom is limited. In the changing rooms, it needs to be ensured that employees do not return to the cloakroom after putting on their cleanroom clothes in the changing room. RFID technology ensures the automatic monitoring of compliance with these guidelines.
Cleanroom clothing or shoes are equipped with a washable RFID tag. An employee’s authorisation level is linked to the RFID tag via a desktop RFID scanner.
RFID antennas are seamlessly built into the wall, in combination with RFID readers above the ceiling.
The cleanroom door opens automatically when an authorised employee approaches the door at a certain distance.
The permitted number of people present is monitored in real time.
RFID can be used to optimise the patient flow in a hospital. The right patient is directed to the right location at the right time.
When a patient’s identity is linked to an RFID tag located in a wrist bracelet, for example, this link can be used to inform, guide and localise the patient. The captured data can also be used for analysis purposes on the basis of which hospital processes can be further optimised.
The patients, who received an RFID wrist bracelet, wait in the waiting rooms for their surgery. They are automatically and anonymously called to the right location through screens; the call is visualised through icons and numbers which are linked to the patient. The patient is well informed and has enough time to go from one location to another at the right time. The hospital needs fewer staff to guide patients or answer questions and has a real-time overview of the status and location of all patients at all times.
The patient receives an RFID wristband or RFID lanyard that links its identity to a tracking number.
RFID readers, which detect and register the RFID tag, are installed at strategic points.
The Aucxis HERTZ Middleware ensures the captured data to be made available to the used software package.
The software allows to control patient guidance on the tracking screens. Hospital staff can monitor the patient’s movements.
