The customer

The Dutch company De Meeuw is active across Europe and delivers solutions for quick, flexible and modular housing in different markets: healthcare, business, education, construction, industry and housing. From the rental of temporary emergency facilities to the lease or sale of (semi-)permanent solutions.

The challenge

For De Meeuw, it was important to gain more insight in its fleet and to be able to faultlessly register, localise and identify all building modules at strategic locations. The error-prone manual process, where module numbers were not always written down properly and modules were not easily identifiable, encouraged the need for automation.

The solution

Aucxis suggested to automate the logistic flow of De Meeuw with the RFID Asset Management solution. The Proof of Concept on site made it possible to define in detail the required RFID hardware, the exact installation and the software needs.

The RFID solution consists of the following building blocks:

  • Hardware: UHF on-metal tags, RFID handhelds, RFID gates
  • HERTZ RFID middleware for the communication between the hardware and the applications
  • POLARIS RFID software:web portal and app for the handhelds, link with the business software Isah

Fixed RFID gates provide additional control at factory and site entrances and exits.
Frank van der Sprong, Manager Asset Management
"RFID Asset Management helped our employees to get a grip on their work. They know the exact location of every module and which modules will be transported and returned. The search time has significantly been reduced and the inventory is always accurate. Errors of ambiguities are detected in no time and can be easily corrected."

Project flow

All building modules are equipped with multiple RFID tags enabling them to be easily read by both the RFID handhelds and the RFID gates.

RFID enables De Meeuw to monitor its modules throughout the production and delivery process and to register the position and update or retrieve the status (stock, production, transport…) at all times. The handhelds allow to register all box locations by entering coordinates.

The POLARIS Asset Management Software allows to complete picking lists, retrieve reports, perform checks, inspection and inventory. POLARIS also offers the possibility to add pictures for quality control.

Fixed RFID gates provide extra control at the entrances and exits of the factory and the site.

The result

  • The possibility to eliminate errors, no modules which are difficult to identify and no wrong module numbers;
  • More flexibility thanks to the insight into the entire fleet and stocks;
  • Location, condition, pictures of modules are available to everyone at all times;
  • Important learnings thanks to detailed reports and historical overview of the operations;
  • Loading and return lists are  digitally available on handhelds;
  • Grip on the module management processes thanks to the outdoor gates, which gives an insight into the module movements
  • Seamless integration with the business software Isah.
